A Case Report: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Induced by Isotretinoin Treatment

Abstract

In this article, the emergence and treatment process of obsessions with pollution and cleaning compulsions in a 20-year-old female patient with a familial history of OCD and isotretinoin (40 mg/day for 5 months) use are described. OCD symptoms related to isotretinoin use have been reported in the literature. The aim of this case report is to emphasize the importance of psychiatric examination in patients who are started or considered to be started on isotretinoin.

Dursun Hakan Delibaş, Serbest Hekim

Dursun Hakan Delibaş, who graduated from İnönü University Faculty of Medicine in 2007, has been working in the field of psychiatry since 2007. He completed his specialist training at İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital in 2012. He worked as a psychiatrist at Kars State Hospital between May 2012 and July 2012. Then, in July 2012, he was appointed as a psychiatrist at İzmir Bozyaka Training and Research Hospital. He graduated from the Open Education Faculty Health Institutions Management Associate Degree Department between 2012-2014. He received the title of associate professor on 29.05.2020.

He has many completed and ongoing scientific research and projects. He continued to work at Health Sciences University, İzmir Bozyaka Training and Research Hospital until September 2021. He provided training to assistants in other branches at this institution. He served as a referee in many national and international journals.

After starting his psychiatry education, he participated in many national and international psychiatry congresses held annually as a participant, speaker and session chairman. He received training in mental social skills, cognitive behavioral psychotherapy, supportive psychotherapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, EMDR psychotherapy, sexual therapy, mindfulness, and hypnosis. He uses all these trainings eclectically in his daily practice with his patients and treats mental illnesses by adding medication to the treatment when necessary.

He started to serve his patients in his own clinic as of September 2021.
